Villa San Francisco & Black [Space] Residency Present: A cross-residency program


This spring the Black [Space] Residency, physical container for imagination, inquiry, activity and rest part of the Minnesota Street Project, partners with Villa San Francisco to create the first cross-residency conducted at the Villa.

Black [Space] Residency creatives Ashara Ekundayo and Angela Wellman will spend a 2-month artistic residency at Villa San Francisco nourishing a local as well as a transatlantic dialogue between artists and communities.

 

PROGRAM: Throughout the cross-residency program Ekundayo will be engaged in her Artist As First Responder platform to design and print the 2nd edition of her Blatant zine and concurrently host her monthly "Blatant" live forum at Villa San Francisco.

Ekundayo co-resident, Wellman, will conduct research on African American musicians in Paris, particularly looking at the influences of Jazz & Hip Hop in France.

 

WHO: Ashara Ekundayo is an independent curator, artist, creative industries entrepreneur and organizer working internationally across cultural, spiritual, civic, and social innovation spaces. Ekundayo co-founded the Black [Space] Residency in December 2020.

Angela Wellman is an arts educator, musician and photographer part of the Black [Space] Residency.
